A high-level delegation headed by Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jaber, a member of the Sovereign Council, attended a reconciliation conference between the Fallata and the Rizeigat against the backdrop of conflict between the two tribes in May 2020.
During the reconciliation conference there were clear efforts by some to collapse the talks. In one incident, a group of Rizeigat tribesmen looted livestock from members of the Fallata.
Local monitors believe such attempts are orchestrated by remnants of the former regime and those who seek to benefit from their return.
Those who seek the return of the former regime hold the view that Darfur can serve as a perfect base through which to undermine the Transitional Government through enhanced levels of violence.
