In early June 2020, forces of the Sudan Liberation Army – Abdel Wahid faction (SLA-AW) under the command of Abd Al-Qadir Abs Al-Rahman (Qaddoura) occupied the Katrum area.
On June 5th, 2020, a joint force from the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the SLA-AW positions forcing them to retreat.
Though peace talks are underway in Juba, South Sudan, the SLA-AW have thus far refused to participate in the process despite the removal of the former regime.
