South Darfur: Two Killed and One Injured in Kalma Camp Ambush

On June 6th, 2020, two persons were killed and one injured during an ambush in Kalma Camp in South Darfur.

Three individuals were driving to Nyala from their farms situated in the east of the state. Upon their return to Nyala they lost their way and entered Kalma Camp by mistake where they were then stopped by a group of young men who demanded to know why they were inside the camp. After explaining their situation the young men threw rocks at the occupants of the vehicle, injuring one, following which the vehicle then left the scene.

Once the vehicle left it is believed that one of the young men contacted his colleagues at another part of the camp. This group also stopped the vehicle prior to firing without warning killing two of the occupants and injuring another. Both Dangs Osman and Ahmed Kazmeh Hammad were killed, whilst Ali Dangs Osman was injured.

The incident was reported to the authorities resulting in a joint force from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) arriving at the scene and surrounding the camp. Meanwhile the State Security Committee arrived, summoning the Sheikhs and other community leaders demanding them to identify the culprits.
