Members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed Anwar Hassan Idris during protests held in Sennar State.
On 13th July, 2019, on the day previously, protesters demonstrated on the streets of Suki in Sennar State calling for justice for the martyrs of the revolution. The demonstration was peaceful and it was allowed to take place free of any acts of suppression. However, later that evening, members of the RSF raided the Screening Clubs in the city destroying television screens and assaulting the civilians within them.
This prompted demonstrations the following day against the RSF. During this protest, RSF members killed Anwar Hassan Idris. Fortunately the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) intervened on behalf of the civilians resulting in the withdrawal of the RSF from the city, following which protesters burned down the headquarters of the RSF in the area.
